I remember the Lambys well. I remember the sad day when a few of us went during the lunch hour to the lambys from Wentloog Road school. Our friend Shirley ventured a bit far on the mud and tragically died.
Something that will remain with me forever. Around 1950

Dear Beryl,
Thank you for first finding then reading my blog about the Lamby. Losing your friend in that way must have been tragic and the memories would be awful. We were warned to stay away from the mud flats and the River but of course we disobeyed and went there anyway. I remember watching in horrified fascination as a boy went swimming in the River and thought he was sure to drown. Luckily he did not.
I have a memory of walking out on the mud flats and retreating before the fast incoming tide. What I did not realise was that there were shallow channels in the flats and the tide could surge along them and come behind you. It is a dangerous place but also a fascinating place.
I have written a story about young children who grow up in Rumney and play on the Lamby and nearby. I shall be putting a chapter at a time on this site. I hope you read it and enjoy it. Tell your friends.
My sisters went to the school on Wentloog Road. I went to Greenway school which was new in the early 50’s and then to Rumney Junior School which was next to the primary school.
